So What Is Therapy?

Therapy is the opportunity to discover why people do what they do and why people think the way they think. Therapy is a process of learning about oneself through the use of various therapeutic approaches. People may chose to seek therapy for several reasons at some point in their life, whether it be unresolved grief from some type of loss or addressing built up resentments that are impacting relationships. Therapy can help provide insight into the underpinnings of unresolved resentments so individuals can heal from past hurts and discover their true happiness.

Therapy can also address issues such as Depression and Anxiety, just to name a few. Depression can occur at any stage of life and for any reason, whether it be relational dilemmas, job stress or grief. When an individual is depressed, they can feel trapped, lost and sad and may feel nothing will change. Depression can cause an individual to feel sad and have sleeping issues or not feel motivated to start their day or engage in previously enjoyable activities. Depression is a SERIOUS issue and seeking help is key to stopping the progression and taking back the reigns. Therapy focuses on understanding the origins of the symptoms underlying the depression and addressing the negative thoughts and feelings which cause one to feel sad.

At times, symptoms of Anxiety may also come up in life or they may be co-morbid with depression. Anxiety can cause an individual to feel out of control in their life and they may feel something bad is going to happen to them or someone else. People who struggle with Anxiety may feel like they are in a constant state of worry where they struggle to relax. Therapy can provide insight about how past negative events or traumas lead to the development of anxiety. It is crucial to seek help when anxiety starts to interfere with daily functioning because if left untreated, other issues can develop such as substance abuse.  In some cases people self-medicate with substances to numb the emotional distress caused by anxiety. Therapy provides the opportunity for self-care and healing in a busy world where it seems like there is never enough time.
